Mosquito boom for Brisbane as cold snap grips east coast
Brisbane residents are warned of a mosquito population boom as a cold snap grips the east coast.
Temperatures are set to plummet in the Queensland capital today, with a cold front bringing winter temperatures to the Sunshine State after passing over New South Wales and Victoria.
But previous warmth combined with the wet conditions brought by La Nina has provided a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes and midges.

Councils in the state's south-east have urged residents to remove water sources around their homes as they look to fight back against the bug boom.
Cooler temperatures will prevail in Brisbane in the coming days, with lows around 12C and highs in the mid-20C range.
A polar blast hit South Australia overnight, with snow hail, heavy rain and lightning in some areas.

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned the country will continue to suffer unseasonal cold and weather in the early days of November - except for northern Queensland and the Northern Territory, which are facing extreme heatwaves.
Two major jet streams are clashing above the country, fuelling the wild weather.
"This setup is allowing very cold polar air to interact with much warmer air sitting over the Australian continent, creating a large contrast in temperature and air mass density," Weatherzone explained yesterday.
"That is producing a dangerous mix of weather."
