Thunderstorms in Queensland, Perth set for warm spell

A broad low pressure trough over central and southeast WA is generating showers and storms, some severe.

Another trough over central Queensland is triggering storms and showers. Onshore winds are pushing some showers over coastal eastern Queensland.

A high is keeping elsewhere mostly settled.

NSW & THE ACT

Showers & the odd storm, mild in the northeast. Fog then sunny, cool-to-mild in the southeast. Windy on the Alps. Fog then sunny, cool-to-mild in the southwest. Mostly sunny, warm in the northwest.

Sydney is mostly sunny today, with a low of 16C and top of 24C.

Canberra is mostly sunny today, with a low of 10C and a top of 22C.

Victoria

Late showers, cool-to-mild in the southwest. Sunny, cool-to-mild in the southeast. Mostly sunny, warm in the northwest. Fog then sunny, cool-to-mild in the northeast.

Melbourne is mostly sunny today, with a low of 7C and top of 25C.

Tasmania

Late showers, cool-to-mild in the southwest. Mostly sunny, mild in the southeast. Mostly sunny, cool-to-cold in the north.

Hobart has a late shower today, with a low of 6C and a top of 20C.

There's a strong wind warning for the Upper East Coast, South East Coast, South West Coast and Central West Coast.

South Australia

Mostly sunny, cool-to-mild in the southeast and central. Clearing shower, very warm in the west. Mostly cloudy, very warm-to-hot in north.

Adelaide is mostly sunny today, with a low of 15C and a top of 28C.

Western Australia

Sunny, mild-to-warm in the southwest. Mostly sunny, cool-to-mild in the south. Sunny, hot in the north.

After a run of mild days with temperatures close to average for this time of year, Perth will get a brief burst of warmth to start the week.

Perth is mostly sunny today, with a low of 11C and a top of 28C.

There are also signs of more significant heat building in around a week's time, at this stage coinciding with a the weekend, rather than the weekdays of the upcoming warmth this week.

Northern Territory

Mostly sunny, very warm in the north. Sunny, warm-to-very warm over the interior and south.

Darwin is sunny today, with a low of 25C and top of 35C.
