Weather delays MH370 search completion

The search for MH370 will take longer than expected after bad weather caused a four-week suspension of operations in the southern Indian Ocean.

Searchers previously expected to finish combing the 120,000 square kilometre area by mid-year but now say it may take until about August.

"Weather conditions are forecast to be marginal over the coming week and search operations may again be disrupted," Australia's Joint Agency Coordination Centre said on Wednesday.

More than 105,000sq km of the seafloor have been searched so far.

The Malaysia Airlines jetliner disappeared on March 8, 2014 with 239 people on board, including six Australians.
