A 24-year-old worker suffered serious injuries to his chest and head when a three-metre brick wall collapsed on him in Sydney's east.

The man fell on a sharp object and was hit with falling bricks after the wall gave way at a worksite on Gilgandra Avenue, North Bondi, about 8am today.

"Emergency services and bystanders did a great job to free the man and safely secure the scene so that paramedics could assess and treat the patient," she said.
