Teenager accused of stabbing bishop charged with terrorism offence
A 16-year-old boy has been charged with committing a terrorist act after allegedly stabbing Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel at a church in Wakeley on Monday.
The teenager was detained by worshippers at the Christ the Good Shepherd Church before being arrested by police and taken to a medical facility for treatment.
Emmanuel, 53, suffered significant head injuries. Father Isaac Royel, 3, also suffered lacerations and a shoulder wound when he attempted to intervene, police said.
This afternoon, the boy was interviewed by Joint Counter Terrorism officers, who then charged him with committing a terrorist act, NSW Police said in a statement.

The teenager has been refused bail and will face a bedside court hearing tomorrow.
The charge of committing a terrorist act carries a maximum penalty of imprisonment for life.
Emmanuel, in his first message since the attack, said today that he forgives the teenager.
