WA weather warning cancelled

A severe weather warning has been cancelled, but thousands of WA residents are still without power.

An alert for the Great Southern was cancelled about 7pm on Saturday.

Storms that lashed WA throughout Friday night and Saturday caused widespread power cuts.

By Saturday evening, Western Power had restored power to 15,500 customers.

However, another 9200, including 7000 in the South West, were still without power.

About 24,000 customers lost power on Saturday after a front started to move across WA overnight.

Emergency crews answered more than 20 requests for help, with damage reported in metropolitan areas including Bayswater and Kalamunda and regional areas such as Bridgetown and Albany.

The Bureau of Meteorology advised the deep low pressure system causing much of the wild weather now lies well to the south of Israelite Bay and is moving slowly east, and an associated strong cold front is moving east along the Eucla coast.
