A total fire ban has been issued for three regions in southern Western Australia.

No open air fires, including those for cooking, are permitted on Tuesday in the state's Midwest Gascoyne, Goldfields Midlands and inland Metropolitan regions, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services says.

Fines of up to $25,000 and/or 12 months jail will apply for anyone who ignores the warning.

The ban comes after severe and extreme fire danger ratings were issued for the same areas on Monday night.

Extreme fire danger is forecast for the Midwest Gascoyne, including inland and coastal parts of the Central West on Tuesday.

Severe ratings have been issued for inland Perth and surrounding areas, including Perth Hills and neighbouring shires.

Authorities are urging residents to be prepared with bushfire survival plans and kits.
