The WA government is pushing for federal funding to ensure a sustainable water supply for the agricultural industry in the state's South West region, ahead of a visit by the prime minister and cabinet next week.

The McGowan government will spend $56 million on expanding irrigation in the Pemberton and Manjimup area, including $10 million raised by local growers.

An additional $380 million of combined federal, state and industry funding will go towards solving the devastating long-term salinity problems at Wellington Dam.

The two projects are predicted to create 1500 long-term jobs for the region.
