Ten people have been arrested and 1500 cannabis plants seized in what police say has "smashed" a major Perth drug syndicate.

Raids were carried out at 24 properties in Perth's southern suburbs on Wednesday.

As well as the plants, police seized about 30kg of cannabis material and cash.

Those arrested were likely linked to the same crime syndicate and four were in Australia illegally and are now in a detention centre, Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Rowson said.

"The organised crime syndicate we have identified is quite large, with significant resources being used to fund the operation," Mr Rowson said.

"The sale of cannabis contributes to local volume crime offences such as burglaries, stealing offences and other crimes committed by people to fund their drug purchases."

A 42-year-old man from Rockingham and a 26-year-old man from NSW were charged with drug trafficking offences and stealing electricity.
