Some of the breeds targeted include Australorp, Araucana, pekin, and feather legged bantams.

In the agriculture industry the pedigree birds come with a high price tag, some fetching up to $1000 each.

While police are urging victims with unreported cases to come forward, others aren't convinced the culprit is human.

Northam breeder Karen Ducat told 9News she "isn't sure it's a two-legged thief".

Not all are convinced the thief is human however.

"In the last three weeks I've probably lost about 15 different poultry to the fox," she said.

"Most people who are full on breeders have got security cameras around their property".
