WA murder accused boy's bail delayed again

A 12-year-old boy charged with murder has had his bail hearing deferred for a fourth time after questions were raised about who will care for him if he is released.

Patrick "Paddy" Slater, 26, died in hospital after he was attacked with star pickets, screwdrivers and rocks following a brawl near Elizabeth Quay Station in Perth in the early hours of January 27.

The boy, believed to be one of the youngest people charged with murder in Australia, is among seven people charged over Mr Slater's death and was 11 at the time of the alleged offence.

He appeared in Perth Children's Court on Tuesday via video link from Banksia Hill Detention Centre flanked by his mother, brother and another woman.

Concerns were raised over the suitability of the boy's older brother to be a responsible person to care for him because he is facing criminal charges on a separate matter.

Defence lawyer Helen Prince said the brother needed to get his own legal advice.

The bail hearing had previously been postponed because Children's Court President Denis Reynolds needed details about the boy's living, supervision and education arrangements.

The boy is due back in court on May 6.
