Thailand has been identified as a potential processing and distribution hub for West Australian live export cattle in a government report.

Thailand imported 9000 head of cattle from Australia last year, with the study suggesting WA had the potential to expand it by building a new supply chain with modern processing.

Regional development minister Terry Redman said the government funded pre-feasibility study was the first step in a $15 million investment to grow and diversify the cattle industry in WA's Kimberley and Pilbara regions.
