A man accused of punching a 10-week-old boy in the head while the infant was strapped to his father's chest in a baby carrier will stand trial in Perth.

Police allege Ian Douglas James Gordon, 27, approached the father, who was a stranger to him, at an Innaloo car park on March 3 and struck the baby after the adults had a brief conversation.

The infant suffered minor injuries.

Gordon appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Monday where he pleaded not guilty to endangering the life, health or safety of a person.

He is on bail with several conditions and will face a trial allocation hearing on May 28.
