A man who was fined for causing criminal damage allegedly smashed up a toilet in the court building soon after, was taken into custody, then got re-arrested when he failed to move on from the Perth Watch House.

Jerome Hanley, 26, had appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday where he was fined $400 for causing criminal damage, plus court costs of $98.50.

Shortly after, he allegedly damaged a toilet in the building and was taken to the Perth Watch House where he was charged with criminal damage and disorderly behaviour in public, a police spokesman told AAP.

Hanley was given a court for date of February 10 for those charges and was released.

But Hanley was re-arrested when he failed to move on and was charged with disorderly behaviour in public and in a lock up.

Police are still dealing with him and it is not yet clear if he will be released again or remain behind bars.
