WA hospital workers threaten full strike

West Australian health support workers are threatening full blown strike action after almost two weeks of work bans unless the premier publicly promises no more privatisation in hospitals.

United Voice said on Thursday that its members would accept a deal that would include a wage rise of 2.25 per cent and 2.5 per cent each year, and would secure support worker jobs by not allowing the government to outsource services such as cleaning, orderlies and sterilisation.

Work bans have been held at hospitals including Sir Charles Gairdner and Royal Perth over the past two weeks, with patient services affected including meal delivery and cleaning of wards.
