Stranded Perth man charged over bushfire

A Perth man allegedly lit a fire while stranded in a forest to the city's northeast and then left the area without ensuring it was put out, sparking a bushfire.

The 41-year-old drove into Julimar State Forest on Wednesday evening and his car broke down, leaving him stranded, police say.

He became lost after leaving his vehicle, allegedly lit the fire and then left the area.

Police have charged him with breach of duty, no authority to drive, using an unlicensed vehicle and false plates.

The fire was controlled and contained by Friday morning after burning through 615 hectares.

Separately, a watch and act alert remains in place for Gwindinup and Argyle in the South West region, where there is a possible threat to lives and homes.

That blaze has torn through 205 hectares.
