WA cruise captain accused of meth dealing

The captain of a West Australian luxury cruise ship has been charged with drug dealing after a raid on the vessel uncovered bagged-up methylamphetamine.

WA and Northern Territory police raided the Kimberley Quest as it was docked at Wyndham Port on Monday, finding about 28 grams of methylamphetamine in several small clip-seal bags and other drug paraphernalia inside the cabin.

A 55-year-old man, reportedly the co-owner, was arrested and charged with two offences including possessing a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply, and is due to appear in the Broome Magistrates Court on April 18.

Kimberley Quest said a replacement captain would oversee the original crew on forthcoming cruises, with all going ahead as scheduled.

The company said it had fully co-operated with police.

"As a business with an unblemished safety record stretching over more than two decades, we are confident that at no time has the safety of our guests been compromised," Kimberley Quest said in a statement.

Kimberley Quest's 14-day tours, which cost up to $20,800 per person, are booked out for the rest of the year.
