WA business lobbies for payroll tax change

WA's peak business lobby group has continued its push to change payroll tax, sending reasons for lifting the threshold to Premier Colin Barnett and opposition leader Mark McGowan.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of WA says lifting the threshold by $100,000 would directly benefit between 10,000 and 12,000 small and medium-sized businesses, creating 278 direct jobs and 602 indirect jobs.

CCIWA also says the threshold should be indexed to inflation and increased incrementally up to $1.5 million - then the tax should be abolished completely - but Treasurer Mike Nahan recently said the threshold was already higher than in NSW and Victoria.
