Friends mourn victims of fatal WA boat crash, including mother of AFL star

Family and friends gathered on Tuesday near the crash site where Kylie Bazzo - the mother of West Coast Eagles defender Rhett Bazzo - died in a boat crash on Saturday.

Bazzo's friend Debbie Burdon also died in the horrific boating accident, while her husband John Burdon is still in hospital with extensive back injuries.

As people gathered to mourn the two women who died, police are continuing their investigations into the Mandurah Estuary crash.

WA Police held a formal interview with the only unharmed survivor Mick Young, as part of their investigation into how the boating trip turned deadly.

They're also using CCTV footage to assist in their investigation.

The group had visited the Brighton Hotel together in the hours leading up to the fatal crash, 9News understands.

According to a local witness, they say they saw the boat speeding through the estuary and hit a marker in the water, which sent it bouncing backwards.

Another local also told 9News the lack of lighting around the waterway makes it hazardous at night.

"I think there should be a lot more lights because there are a lot of boats floating up and down here at night."

Rescuers had been searching in the water for the crash victims for more than 20 hours before their bodies were found.

Locals also assisted in the search efforts on boats, canoes and on foot along the shoreline.

Water police officers recovered the body of the 52-year-old near Creery Island at about 7pm (AWST) on Sunday.

Four people were on board the boat on Saturday night when it crashed into a red navigation marker about 10pm (AWST).

An investigation into the cause of the boat crash is continuing.
