A former WA Corruption and Crime Commission (CCC) officer has been charged with possessing a banned sports drink supplement popular with some body builders.

The 37-year-old man allegedly purchased two containers of Jack3d, a caffeine-based product which reportedly makes the user feel they have more energy.

He allegedly kept one container at home and the other at the commission.

Jack3d contains DMMA, a substance banned in August 2012, but which is still available online in Australia.

The CCC said the officer had consistently maintained he bought the product prior to the ban and was unaware of it until the matter was reported in August 2014.

The commission said it's disappointed one of its former officers had allegedly been found in possession of a banned substance.

The man will appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on February 4.
