Unrest fears, alcohol sales cut in Hedland

Police have banned takeaway alcohol sales in Port and South Hedland amid fears of civil unrest over the state coroner's findings into the death in custody of Aboriginal woman Ms Dhu.

Coroner Ros Fogliani has released CCTV footage showing South Hedland police dragging and carrying Ms Dhu's limp body to a police van.

The decision to ban alcohol sales until further notice has been made under the Liquor Accord Act, as local police have reason to believe civil disorder and/or a breach of peace is likely to occur, a joint police and Town of Hedland statement says.
