Union opposes public sector redundancies

Services will be delayed and there will be some longer queues if the West Australian government continues to cut the public sector workforce, a union says.

The state government's Workforce Reform Act 2014 comes into effect on Friday and the Community and Public Sector Union/Civil Service Association says it gives the WA government unprecedented power to terminate public service jobs.

Branch secretary Toni Walkington said members were concerned for the future of public services in WA, adding that the constant running down of the public sector was affecting staff morale.

She says it is also irresponsible of the government to say privatisation of some services will save taxpayers' money.
