Tomahawk attack at Perth petrol station

A 21-year-old man has been attacked with a tomahawk while refuelling his vehicle at a petrol station in Perth.

The victim was at the Burns Beach Road petrol station in Currambine at 6.30pm on Wednesday when he got into a fight with another man, who hit him with the axe.

The offender then went back to his vehicle before driving at and hitting the victim then speeding away.

It is not known if the men knew each other.

Police later apprehended the man with the assistance of the dog squad.

A 33-year-old has been charged with grievous bodily harm regarding another matter which occurred in 2014, while investigations into Wednesday's incident are continuing.

The 21-year-old has a suspected fractured skull and is in a stable condition at Royal Perth Hospital.
