Western Power is helping to restore power to about 25,000 Perth homes and businesses after a thunder storm.

Customers in the Perth Hills area lost power after a lightning strike triggered safety devices in the network to activate.

But there was no damage to stop homes and businesses from having their power restored.

The number of customers affected has been reduced to under 12,000.

Suburbs affected by the outage includes Byford, Armadale, Seville Grove, Brookdale, Hilbert, Serpentine, Oakford, Mundijong and Haynes.

If anyone sees a fallen powerline or damage to the network from storms they should make the Safe Call to Western Power on 13 13 51 and stay at least 8 meters away.

Perth is set to see storms today with up to 10mm of rain expected in the metro area, as well as more thunderstorms in the afternoon.
