Snow expected again in WA's south

To see snow once a year at Bluff Knoll in Western Australia is rare enough, but weather forecasters are expecting it to fall for a second time within a week.

People taking the six kilometre round-trip trek up to Bluff Knoll, in the Great Southern region, found the peak of the Stirling Range snow-capped on Sunday, prompting some to build a snowman and be photographed "in the buff on the bluff".

The Bureau of Meteorology predicts the Stirling Range will again be dusted with snow on Wednesday afternoon, while Perth and the state's south west could also see small hail.

Bluff Knoll, which is 1095m above sea level, is the third highest peak in WA and one of the few places in the state where it can snow.

The bureau says snow falls there on average about once a year, but last year there were six confirmed reports.

It was a slow start to winter in WA, with an unusually dry and warm June.
