A 100 tonne crane was accidentally dropped into the hold of a cargo ship during loading at the port of Fremantle.

Amateur video distributed by the International Transport Workers' Federation shows the crane falling into the vessel Stevns Trader on Monday.

The union says the crane wasn't being operated by properly trained stevedores.

One seafarer reported minor injuries, the union said.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has detained the vessel while it investigates the incident.

The AMSA has also restricted use of the ship's cranes until they are assessed by the authority and the ship's classification society.
