Sex offender denies link to unsolved Rayney murder

A convicted sex offender linked to the unsolved murder of West Australian Supreme Court registrar Corryn Rayney has denied any involvement in her death.

Allon Lacco was living in the same suburb as Ms Rayney and her estranged husband, former prominent Perth barrister Lloyd Rayney, when she disappeared after her weekly bootscooting class and was found days later in a bush grave at Kings Park in 2007.

Mr Rayney was acquitted of murdering his wife and a subsequent appeal was also dismissed.

During his trial, the court heard Mr Lacco was living with another man whose DNA matched a cigarette butt found on a footpath outside the Rayneys' home.

The mention of the pair was part of a defence claim that police did not thoroughly investigate other possible suspects.

The Sunday Times newspaper reports that the legal team has given police information for their cold case review.

"I didn't kill her," Mr Lacco told the newspaper.

"At the end of the day, I sleep peacefully. I have nothing to hide."

However, Mr Lacco admitted to selling drugs in the Bentley car park where Ms Rayney was last seen alive and used to work at Kings Park.

Mr Lacco, who was once described as a "monster" in court after the sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl, said he had sympathy for the Rayney family.

"I will be blunt - if I'm going to kill anybody it would be a man," he said.

Mr Lacco was arrested on the day Ms Rayney's body as found and had injuries to his face and hands.

He moved to Victoria a few months later but said he was often moving back and forth between the two states.

A spokeswoman for the police commissioner declined to comment.
