WA photographer found dead at mountain

A body believed to be that of missing photographer Matthew Dwyer has been found at the base of a steep incline in Western Australia's Bluff Knoll area.

The 51-year-old's backpack and car keys were found on the mountain - the highest peak in the Stirling Ranges - while his campervan was located in a nearby car park early on Wednesday.

Search teams scoured rough terrain and found a man's body just before midday on Thursday.

While police said his identity is yet to be confirmed, he is believed to be Mr Dwyer.

"Obviously it's not the outcome we were looking for," Acting Superintendent Alex Ryan told Nine News.

Mr Dwyer hit headlines last year when he snapped a quokka in the snow at Bluff Knoll's summit.

The photographer said on his website he came to WA in 1974, worked for many years for the Fremantle Herald newspaper and had state government and corporate clients including Perth Zoo, Harper's Bazaar and Cartier.
