Roe 8 road project gets environmental nod

The most contentious aspect of the Perth Freight Link project, the Roe 8 highway extension, has received conditional federal environmental approval.

Environmentalists are concerned the extension will cut through the Beeliar wetlands, which is home to endangered Carnaby's black cockatoos.

Among the 16 conditions imposed by Environment Minister Greg Hunt is the stipulation that during the August to December breeding season and within seven days prior to clearing, all potential nesting trees must be investigated for black cockatoos using hollows.
