Rioting inmates set WA centre ablaze

Guards at a Perth detention centre have rushed to put out a blaze started by rioting inmates.

The fire at Banksia Hill Detention Centre in Canning Vale was started by inmates about 7pm on Thursday, before guards quickly put it out.

"There was a small fire as a result of a situation of unrest. You might call it a riot," a Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said.
