Rehab begins at Perth's Roe 8 site

Rehabilitation of the Roe 8 site has begun, marking the end of the "sorry saga" that was the controversial Perth Freight Link project, the West Australian premier says.

Mark McGowan said on Wednesday that initial works by the former Roe 8 Alliance was focusing on weed control, removing mulch piles and installing permanent conservation reserve fencing to protect regrowth.

"This has been a flawed project, as we know it's cost the taxpayers money, but fortunately we've been able to move the workforce, the 231 workers, onto other projects," Mr McGowan told reporters.

Transport minister Rita Saffioti said the write-off cost of the project was $47 million, including payment for existing work and contractual exit costs.
