Psych review ordered in frying pan murder

A Perth man accused of murdering his mother with a frying pan while she cooked him dinner will have a full psychiatric assessment.

Samuel Edward Ashby, 39, appeared in Stirling Gardens Magistrate Court on Wednesday via video from the maximum security mental health unit Frankland Centre at Graylands Hospital.

Magistrate Jan Whitbread ordered Ashby undergo a full psychiatric assessment, expected to take up to 12 weeks.

Ashby will appear in court again on October 29.
