Prison escapee faces WA court

Former fugitive Bernd Neumann has appeared in a Perth court charged with escaping lawful custody.

Neumann was serving a 15-year jail term for drug trafficking offences when he took a dog for a walk and strolled away during a prisoners' soccer match in Wilson on February 8 last year.

The 60-year-old was arrested in Reedy Creek in Queensland on October 8.

Neumann was flown back to Perth on Saturday and appeared briefly in Perth Magistrates Court on Sunday, where the matter was adjourned until December 22.
