Postcard Bandit makes WA court appearance

A serial bank robber dubbed the "Postcard Bandit" has again appeared briefly in a Perth court over a prison escape 27 years ago.

Brenden James Abbott, 53, appeared in Perth Magistrates Court via video link from Casuarina prison on Thursday, charged with escaping legal custody over his 1989 breakout from Fremantle prison.

It was his third appearance in a Perth court following his extradition from Queensland in May, and he had the matter adjourned until September 15.

Abbott was granted parole in Brisbane in April, having served 18 years of a 25-year sentence for a string of robberies and another escape from a Queensland prison in 1997, but was swiftly arrested over the WA offence.

He fought extradition but a Brisbane judge rejected his bid.
