Poll shows swing against Libs in key seats

Yet another poll has pointed to a large swing against the Liberal West Australian government in key marginal seats in the March state election.

UnionsWA engaged WA Opinion Polls to survey 2700 people across the Perth electorates of Bicton, Mount Lawley, Morley, Wanneroo, Southern River and Swan Hills.

The polling suggests a swing away from the government of about nine per cent across these electorates.

"There's a large swing on in key marginal seats, but at this stage, the election is too close to call," UnionsWA secretary Meredith Hammat said.

Respondents listed health and hospitals, and public transport as the top two state issues.

Also this week, a ReachTel poll in the safe Liberal seat of Riverton asked participants seven questions, including their opinion of Treasurer Mike Nahan, and whether they support the proposed privatisation of electricity poles and wires operator Western Power, which the Electrical Trades Union is campaigning against.

Premier Colin Barnett was furious last month when a group of prominent Perth business people commissioned a ReachTel poll that suggested Riverton was the only one of 11 Liberal-held seats that wouldn't go to Labor in the March state election.
