A 31-year-old man is under police guard in hospital after he allegedly tried to out run Police in Camillo this morning.

Officers tried to stop the man's Holden Ute on Westfield road about 12:30am this morning, which was later found crashed into a tree near the railway line.

They said it was a routine traffic stop but the driver took off.

The pursuit continued on to Tonkin Highway, but Police said they were forced to call it off after the Holden Ute reached excessive speeds.

Four minutes later and the Holden Ute lost control on Railway road, crashed into a tree and rolled into a fence.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Royal Perth Hospital.
