Perth woman breaks hula hooping record

Most people find it hard enough to spin one hula hoop around their body, let alone 181.

That's what it took for Perth woman Bree Kirk-Burnnand to break the hula hooping world record on Thursday.

Ms Kirk-Burnnand had to spin the hoops three times around her waist, in front of two independent judges, who verified her world beating achievement, only hours after it was set by a rival overseas.

Ms Kirk-Burnnand said she had been informed moments before her record attempt that someone had broken the previous record of 162 with a 180 hoop spin.

"I was training with around 170 because the record was initially 162, so up until this morning I had only done 175, so I was put on the spot," Ms Kirk-Burnnand told AAP.

The hula hoop instructor said she had taken up the sport on a whim more than three years ago and had never looked back.
