Tomahawk, meat cleaver discovered after dramatic stolen car crash

A driver in a stolen car has ploughed into an innocent motorist and shut down one of Perth's busiest intersections.

Police discovered a tomahawk, meat cleaver and syringes in the stolen Volkswagen sedan after it crashed into a Lexus at the corner of Reid Highway and Alexander Drive in Mirrabooka, in Perth’s northern suburbs.

The car had been spotted driving on the wrong side of the road numerous times before it ran a red light and caused the accident just before 10am.

A 25-year-old man from East Victoria Park attempted to run away but was tackled by police about 50 metres from the scene of the crash.

The driver of the Lexus has been taken to Midland Health Campus with minor injuries.

Reid Highway and Alexander Drive have now reopened to traffic.
