Perth sizzles at 40C for 4th day in a row

A heatwave record has been matched in Perth, with the temperature hitting 40C for the fourth consecutive day.

It is the second time that four straight days of 40C or more has been recorded in the West Australian capital, with the last time being in February 1933.

The peak was reached at 11.30am, when the temperature was 40.3C.

A new record for the longest run of days of 40C or more will be set if the heatwave continues into Thursday, but the Bureau of Meteorology has forecast 38C.
