Perth's bronze Gumnut Baby stolen
One of two sculptures inspired by Australian author May Gibbs's Snugglepot and Cuddlepie has been stolen from a Perth park.
It's believed thieves cut through steel anchors to remove the bronze Gumnut Baby from Stirling Gardens early on Monday.
Acting Lord Mayor Rob Butler said the characters were symbolic of Australian bush flora and fauna and had been part of the gardens since 2003.
"It is very disappointing that someone has come into the city and taken this away," Mr Butler said in a statement on Tuesday.
"Arts and Culture are valued components to city life for their ability to engage, challenge, excite and surprise people, and help us reflect on our unique cultural identity."
The theft has been reported to police.
