Perth ready to celebrate official opening of Elizabeth Quay

Almost four years after construction began to link Perth's CBD to the Swan River, the final preparations are being made to Elizabeth Quay ahead of its official opening.

The $440 million inlet will open to the public this afternoon, kicking off three weeks of celebrations for the new entertainment and leisure precinct.

Crowds are expected to gather to view the first laser light show at 8pm, while community markets and Fringe World events are scheduled throughout the three-week celebration period.

Several road closures are scheduled for Friday afternoon and evening, including parts of Barrack Street and The Esplanade.
