Average WA petrol price soars to highest on record

The average price of fuel in WA is soaring to the highest on record today.

The biggest retailers are leading the price surge by increasing prices by 20 cents per litre.

The wholesale price of fuel is at $1.42, with some retailers increasing their prices to over $1.60 today.

The ACCC is blaming the high prices on fuel retailers and rich oil companies.

“What we are seeing here is Coles in particular, followed closely by Caltex, pushing the price artificially – it can’t be sustained and it certainly can’t be justified for motorists,” Motor Trade Association Stephen Moir said.

The average prices are set to stay high until early next year.

A few service stations in the Perth metro area are selling for new wholesale prices, with about 30 stations selling fuel for under $1.50.

The advice from FuelWatch is to shop independently and to shop around.

The cheapest petrol on offer today is at $1.39.
