'She was frying': Energy crews investigate after girl, 11, fights for life after suffering electric shock at home

Energy crews have launched an investigation into a metal tap which has left an 11-year-old girl fighting for life after she suffered an electric shock at her family’s Perth home.

Denishar Woods suffered critical injuries when she was shocked trying to turn off an outside tap at the home in Beldon, in Perth’s north on Saturday.

Her mother, Lacey Harrison, and neighbour Mervin Brown tried to help and also suffered electric shocks.

EnergySafety is looking into how the tap became electrified after the power went out at the Department of Housing home, PerthNow reports.

Ms Harrison is now demanding answers, including whether the property’s RCD safety switch was faulty.

She claims she reported a problem with the electricity at the public housing property to the Department of Housing, about an hour before her daughter was shocked. 
I want answers and I want them immediately, Ms Harrison said.

Denishar was revived by paramedics on Saturday night but lost consciousness soon after and has remained in a coma ever since.

Ms Harrison, who has been released from hospital, said she tried desperately to help her daughter.

“I went to grab my baby because I didn’t realise how stuck she was to this energy,” she said.

“It dragged me onto her and I dropped down on the other side half way under my car.

“She was on one side frying, I was on the other side frying.”

She said she will stay by her daughter’s bedside until she recovers.

“I just want everyone to pray for her,” she said.

“She’s my baby and she doesn’t deserve to go this way.”

According to PerthNow, Ms Harrison had reported other power problems at the home in recent months including a “burning electrical smell” where an electrician was unable to find a cause.

Department of Communities General Housing assistant director Greg Cash told the publication the Department was waiting on information from the Office of EnergySafety regarding the incident.

“This is a sad situation and our thoughts are with the family of the young girl,” he said.
