Hostel intruder under hospital guard after attacking firefighter
A man is under police guard in hospital after he allegedly attacked a firefighter at a Northbridge hostel last night.
Emergency crews responded when fire alarms were activated at the Stirling Street building just after 10pm causing hundreds of guests to be evacuated.
When they arrived the man, who’d broken into the hostel and set the alarms off, attacked one of the crews.

The firefighter was treated at the scene.
Police arrived a short time later and were forced to taser the erratic intruder who had also attacked a second person and was believed to be heavily under the influence of drugs.
He was taken to hospital where he became aggressive toward medical staff and had to be sedated.
He’s now in a critical condition.
