Motorbike riders 24pc of WA road deaths

One in four West Australians killed on the road are motorcyclists, a road safety report reveals.

The Road Safety Council of Western Australia says the 24 per cent figure in 2014 is up from 16 per cent five years earlier.

"Vulnerable road users do not have the same protection as those in a vehicle," chairman Murray Lampard said.

"With no air bags or seatbelts, any interaction with a vehicle can be extremely dangerous."

Pedestrians account for nine per cent of road deaths, down from 13 per cent five years earlier.
