Skeleton found in missing couple WA search

Skeletal remains have been found in an abandoned mineshaft during the search for a couple missing in remote Western Australia.

Raymond and Jennie Kehlet, aged 47 and 49 respectively, haven't been seen since March 22 when they were prospecting in the Table Top area in the state's Mid West.

The alarm was raised more than a week later when their dog wandered into the Sandstone caravan park, some 25km from their campsite.

The skeletal remains, believed to be human, were found about 10am on Wednesday in an abandoned mine shaft and will be examined by forensic experts.

The search for Mr and Mrs Kehlet continues.

More than 600sq km has been searched over the past five days.

A police spokesman said they had looked into the possibility of foul play and while there was no evidence of that yet, it could not be ruled out.

He said the couple were with a man who had been assisting police since leaving the area.

A separate search for 53-year-old John Jimenez in the Goldfields-Esperance region has been called off.
