Major flood warning issued for De Grey River Catchment in WA

A major flooding alert has been issued for the De Grey River Catchment area in WA's Pilbara region as heavy rainfall continues as part of ex-tropical cyclone Stan.

The Bureau of Meteorology says river levels in the Coongan River at Marble Bar have exceeded the major flood level (3.5m) and is currently at 4.7m and rising as a result of heavy rainfall in the De Grey River catchment from Ex-Tropical Cyclone Stan.

The Coongan River at Marble Bar Road is currently below the minor flood level (2.0m) at 1.9m and steady. The river is expected to dramatically rise in the next 6 hours as the peak observed at Marble Bar moves downstream.

Flooding may also develop in the Yule, Turner, Sherlock and Maitland rivers during Sunday and into Monday.

DFES advises people and communities to be aware that flooding is possible and be prepared to relocate equipment and livestock.

Watch water levels. Travellers need to be aware that road conditions may be adversely affected and travel plans may need to be reconsidered.

Do not drive into water of unknown depth and velocity.
