MacTiernan denies plan to be Perth mayor

Outgoing federal MP Alannah MacTiernan has denied she plans to become Perth lord mayor but remains open to re-entering state politics if she is approached by Labor.

The retiring ALP member for Perth said while she still had a passion for politics, she was "not really" thinking about the mayoralty because the local government elections had only recently been held, in October.

"I don't know where these things emerge from ... I don't actually have a plan," she told 6PR radio on Friday.

In a damning report, the Corruption and Crime Commission found long-term Perth lord mayor Lisa Scaffidi had engaged in serious misconduct by failing to declare gifts, and the WA Department of Local Government is conducting a review.
