Perth identity John Kizon critical after car crash

Prominent Perth identity John Kizon is in a critical condition in hospital after a suffering a medical episode and crashing his BMW.

Police said it happened on Hospital Avenue, just outside of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, about 9.40pm last night.

The crash left a trail of destruction outside the hospital, after the BMW struck another car, a pole, some bollards and then a tree.

It's understood Kizon suffered a medical episode while on his way to the emergency department.

The 56-year-old businessman is now being treated in the hospital's intensive care unit.

Detectives spent more than four hours last night searching the vehicle and analysing the crash scene.

Kizon was convicted of heroin trafficking in 1982.

The businessman was also charged with insider trading in 2013 but acquitted due to a lack of evidence.
