It's not cricket: $5000 fine for WACA run

A passionate cricket fan has been slapped with a $5000 fine for running onto the pitch to hug players celebrating a victory.

Ross Leuzzi, 25, climbed over a fence and ran onto the WACA field after the Perth Scorchers beat the Melbourne Stars in the Twenty20 semi-final to secure their spot in the Big Bash final.

Leuzzi pleaded guilty in Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday to trespassing and was fined $5000 plus court costs.

The over-enthusiastic cricket fan told reporters outside court that he was sorry for his actions.

Footage of the match shows Leuzzi jubilantly running onto the ground as the crowd cheers, wrapping his arms around the players and jumping for joy.

He then dodges security guards as he tries to return to the spectator stand.
